Wheel Loader WL28e: Electric, powerful, environmentally-friendly

The power ratings of the electrically-driven WL28e wheel loader correspond to those of a conventional diesel-operated machine. The installed 96-Volt lithium-ion battery is available in three power ratings so that the running and charging times can be optimally coordinated with the work requirements. Different charging cables and plugs ensure the machine’s flexible charging options. The WL28e works on-site completely free from exhaust gases and with significantly lower noise emissions. For the end user, this means greater flexibility in application, environmental protection and significant savings with operating costs. The low design of the front end therefore provides the perfect visibility and high tipping loads. It will master pallets with paving stones or other transported goods up to 1.6 t effortlessly.

Powerful lithium-ion battery

  • It is always possible to select the appropriate battery size depending on the area and purpose of application. There is a total of three maintenance-free lithium-ion batteries to choose from: As standard there is the 14.1 kWh, optionally available there are 18 kWh or 28 kWh.
  • A 3 kW onboard charger is installed as standard. Optionally, a second 3 kW onboard charger can be selected to increase the charging power up to a total of 6 kW, which is suitable for the medium and large battery to achieve a fast charging time.

Easy charging options

  • The charging cover can be accessed easily from the outside on the machine. Behind it you will find the socket, the activation switch, and the charge display.
  • The charging cable (Type 2 plug on the machine, familiar from the automotive industry), including the control box, is available with a number of different plugs: 230 V / 10 A Schuko, 230 V / 16 A CEE (blue, 3-pole), 400 V / 16 A CEE (red, three-phase AC current, 5-pole), 400 V / 16 A (Type 2 plug wall box, IEC 62196), and other adapter plugs.
  • The flexible, selectable charging plugs enable fast and coordinated charging of the selected battery size. In combination with the installed on-board charger, both efficient and safe charging processes are guaranteed.

High productivity thanks to the low front carriage

  • The low front carriage makes high tipping loads and break out forces possible; this way, the maximum load per work cycle can be moved.
  • The low front carriage provides for an outstanding overview of the attachment, the immediate work area and the entire surroundings of the machine, which guarantees safe working with the machine.
  • The auxiliary hydraulics at the front on the load arm are protected by piping (3rd control circuit, 4th control circuit, overflow line, unpressurized return line, depending on the model). That is a unique selling point in the compact wheel loader class. Wear and tear is minimized and, as a result, the service life of the machine is increased.

Comfort cab

  • The comfort cabin enables safe and concentrated working: 4-pillar design, deep-drawn windows, and a panoramic windshield for optimal all-round visibility. The thought-out heating design with electrically heated front and rear windshields, heated seats, as well as roof panel heating ensure for a comfortable working climate. Ergonomically organized operating elements, new interior, and reduced vibrations and noises in the interior increase the operator’s comfort.
  • The spatial provision within the cabin is pioneering among the very compact wheel loaders. Depending on equipment and configuration, there are two different joysticks available. The Coming-Home lighting provides additional comfort and safety.
  • The cab is also suitable for taller operators, which isn't always the case for very compact wheel loaders. The pleasant working climate reduces operator fatigue. The optimized access with non-slip steps ensures that the operator can get in and out safely.

Easy-to-read digital display

  • The main functions always in sight: With the digital display, the operator always has everything in sight while working.
  • On the outside of the display are the standard indications, like the warning light for the parking brake or the control lights for the indicator or the full beam.
  • In the central area of the display for information there are three main views and a variety of useful information, e.g. operating hour meter, charge status of the drive battery, remaining running time / remaining charge time, speed display, average consumption, recuperation level, date, time, or temperature of different components.

Maximum traction thanks to articulated pendulum joint

  • Because of the articulated pendulum joint with 12° oscillating angle, all four wheels retain excellent traction, even on uneven ground conditions and the operator maintains optimal control. This increases the productivity of the entire machine system.

All Wacker Neuson wheel loaders can be operated in a very similar or even identical way. This gives the operator the advantage of quickly finding his way around on different Wacker Neuson wheel loaders and being able to work productively.
  • The Wacker Neuson operating philosophy allows the operator to easily understand the machine, which enables him to work safely and productively. The operator can be found operating different Wacker Neuson machines, even across product groups. This is demonstrated, for example, in recurring elements such as the jog dial, joystick, display, switch assignments, etc.

Ergonomic Joystick

  • The joystick fits securely and comfortably in one hand. The control is direct and sensitive at the same time. The operator therefore always has complete control over the machine and its most important functions.
  • Alongside the standard functions, like selecting the travel direction and the speed, other functions, e.g. the differential lock, the 3rd control circuit, and all electrical functions, can be operated using the joystick. This enables the comfortable one-handed operation of attachments.

Ventilation as required

  • The cabs feature large, adjustable wide-opening doors on both sides. The upper window can fold up completely and be locked. A gap ventilation is also possible. This provides fresh air in the cab even without air conditioning and increases operator comfort in warm outside temperatures.

Comfortable and ergonomic operator's seat

  • The operator’s seat is adjustable, ergonomically formed and well suspended. The optional air-suspended comfort seat provides even more comfortable operation conditions. Manual throttle

  • The hand throttle enables the manual setting of a constant travel speed. In doing so, the foot pedal need not be operated. The variable setting is both comfortable ad precise via a corresponding potentiometer.
  • The set travel speed can be overridden with the foot pedal. If the pedal is then released, the machine will return to the set speed.
  • The hand throttle ensures comfortable and concentrated work with attachments such as a sweeper, hedge trimmer or mulcher, even over longer periods of time.

  • Compact wheel loaders can be equipped with the fold-down operator's canopy EPS (Easy Protection System). This complies with the current European Machinery Directive according to ROPS and FOPS protection. With a few hand movements, the EPS can be prepared manually for a low clearance height.
  • EPS increases the flexibility of the machine, as it can even pass through low passages. Also, the application areas of the machine are expanded. Battery Management System (BMS)

  • The lithium-ion battery is optimally monitored by the implemented electronics system.
  • The BMS also enables significantly increased charging currents, short-term provision of power peaks and permanent monitoring of the temperature. In addition, the battery is always preheated to the optimum operating temperature.
  • The Battery Management System therefore increases efficiency and safety of the battery, and excludes the possibility of a deep discharge.

Blue Safety Light

  • The Blue Safety Light is an optical reversing warning system. It is activated automatically when reverse gear is engaged and projects a blue light spot onto the ground at some distance.
  • Despite the lack of engine noise, people in the danger zone can still be aware of the machine and remove themselves from the danger zone.
  • The Blue Safety Light therefore increases the level of safety when reversing an eMachine with little noise.

Electric parking brake

  • The electric parking brake is applied automatically when the machine is stationary, the direction of travel is set to neutral or the operator leaves the seat. The parking brake is released automatically when the machine is restarted using the accelerator pedal. This provides increased safety and comfort for the operator and their working environment. The machine can therefore be operated very efficiently thanks to the electric parking brake.
  • The electric parking brake can also be activated or deactivated manually by pressing a switch. The operator is always in control and can work with the machine according to his own needs and preferences.
  • The electric parking brake offers both a comfortable auto-hold function as well as a hill-hold function. This prevents the machine from rolling away and as a result increases safety when working. Additionally, energy is recovered using the braking system via the so-called Energy Recuperation, which also lengthens the machine’s running time.

Color-coded operating concept

  • All control elements are within easy reach and the operator always has the most important machine information in view via the optimally positioned display. The switches and controls are divided into different color groupings: Gray = electrical, Red = safety, Blue/Orange = drive system, Green = hydraulics. This ensures quick recognition and orientation at all times.

Always the Right Running Time

  • Depending on the size of the battery, it is possible to achieve a running time with uninterrupted operation of over 5 hr. The running times of the battery are therefore strongly dependent on the respective application conditions, the task, and the driving style. This may also mean that a significantly longer running time can be achieved. The specified running times may also be undercut in extreme cases.

Low operating costs

  • The operating costs over the duration of the machine’s service life are reduced significantly for an electrically-driven machine when compared to those of a diesel-driven machine, because less energy and service costs are incurred.
  • The somewhat higher investment costs are recouped for a completely electrically-driven machine after a certain time of an average service life duration, depending on the usage behavior and the area of application. The purely electric drive is viewed as the most cost-effective alternative in the long run.

Efficient attachment use

Different operating modes

  • As standard, the machine is equipped with two different operating modes, which can be changed at the press of a button.
  • POWER mode: Usual drive system function, no reduction in rpm or restrictions.
  • ECO mode: With this mode, acceleration is curbed and the top speed is reduced. Furthermore, the volume flow of the work hydraulics is reduced. This allows for a longer running time of the battery and is ideal for light to medium loading activities, transportation works and driving on streets.

Pressure relief on the loading system

  • The button for pressure release is easily accessible on the outside of the loading system. In this way, different hydraulically-operated attachments can be replaced even faster and more efficiently. This also works with the ignition switched on or the engine running.
  • When the pressure release is actuated, the 3rd control circuit and, if available, the 4th control circuit are depressurized simultaneously and hydraulically-operated attachments can be changed quickly and safely.

Performance when and where it's needed

  • Two separate electric motors are inserted into the machine: One for the drive system, and one for he work hydraulics drive. As a result, the energy consumption is minimized, because it is only utilized when it is really needed.
  • The electric motor for the drive system also enables the machine to start up dynamically and powerfully. This can be felt during every acceleration process and thus increases the operator's comfort.

Flat-Face Hydraulic Couplings

  • Easy exchange of attachments: The flat-face hydraulic couplings are easy to clean and ensure less contamination throughout the hydraulic system. Hardly any leakage occurs when connecting hydraulic hoses, keeping hands, the machine, the attachment and the ground clean.
  • Flat-face hydraulic couplers also allow attachments to be connected under pressure, saving time. All coupling types are mounted on the same bulkhead for easy access.
